Faceless Me

You were here, they said. I wanted to scream, not now! But my lips could not form the words,
for time had stilled my tongue – ‘Twas too late to beg you to leave.
You revised my wardrobe, diet, life-goals. You took. In fairness, you gave too. I sang, smiled,
my world – a flowery garden. We grew.
You left, anyway.
They did not know why. You were still, cold, pale, they said. I turned away, I hid my face. It was
easier, I thought – take her away!
Three years gone, I still ask: Did you look like me, Faceless Me?
