Shape Shifting

Yesterday, it was well... simple, straightforward, well fenced

Today, spillovers everywhere, untamed

Love, shape-shifting, evolving, dynamic

In today, out tomorrow... but not so much

Love lingers, it's flavour coating the taste buds like pepper soup

Loving dribbles down the fingers like juice from the bone marrows of chicken

Together today, separate tomorrow... but not exactly

Love fills the belly, like pounded yam and egusi soup, comforting

Loving stays long after lovers are gone, engraved in marbles - life art

Yesterday lives on, momentarily immortal

Love marks you, like a henna artist, intricately telling a story

Loving gifts you memories collected like postcards, snow globes

What lies ahead is well... ahead and full of mystery

Love keeps you glancing back, reflective, something like hummingbirds

Loving makes you nimble, teaching you the value of motion - forward, backward, hover!

Love brings us together like folktales, imaginations of ancestors

Life lessons, reminding us the paths that lay behind are also full of mystery

Loving keeps us inquisitive, appearing indecipherable yet fully desirable

Love knocks on the door when you least expect, like an amebo neighbour

It walks in and morphs into the best friend you never knew you needed

Filling you with laughter, stretching you, shaping you, transforming you

Loving can be difficult to master, like owambe jollof

Between identifying idiosyncrasies while nurturing growing affection

And regretting the attempt entirely, love keeps you coming back for more.
