Her
Where I am headed to?
I have no idea where I came from.
Two mounds on my chest
As I bleed between my legs.
What am I?
I do not know.
They said I am an investment for my father.
They called me another word,
a tad similar to a slave for my husband.
Leave me alone sister.
Let me push this one out and rest.
Even in the stomach, he behaves like his father.
The moon has started her journey
But my husband is yet to return.
No doubt, emptying in seeds in a leather
Between another woman's thigh.
He complains there is no money.
Cursing the president every morning,
Has become a routine for him.
And yet he has enough,
To give to the women in red light streets,
To get himself a bottle of beer
And a plate of isi-ewu
In Madame Gladys' shop.
I better prepare myself
Before he returns.
The nectar I have is different he says.
But I suspect him.
He wants to give me,
Everything he has gotten outside.
He does not know yet.
But once I have enough,
I shall run and never look back.
I refuse to submit to heartache
Like my mother
and her mother's mother.
I shall go faraway and raise my son.
He must learn,
That a woman is more.
Much more than a creature
Just for his comfort!
