Dreams Never Die

I went to sleep on top of the world
and in my forty winks, the Sandman tried to hoodwink me
through rose-coloured glasses and pasted smiles
no sweeter than lemon pastries
paying my dreams dust
stuck them in a vault
locked airtight,
beads of sweat form in fright
tossing and turning
now unsafe in my own skin
Shambolic and in a rut
dense tumultuous storms raging
as if Aries god of war has taken residence
death is preying
And I am wishing on a star
Wishing for a rude awakening
wishing that I could bolt
for my misery abhors company
I went to sleep on top of the world
but today the world is on top of me
